ISLAMABAD, August 18 (Diplomatic Star): The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has dispatched a mobile health clinic to Buner district to provide urgent medical assistance to families severely affected by the recent floods, underscoring Turkiye’s commitment to humanitarian solidarity with Pakistan.
According to a statement issued by TIKA on Monday, the mobile unit has been deployed to deliver essential healthcare services, life-saving medicines, and hygiene kits to communities struggling in the aftermath of the disaster.
The initiative comes as part of Turkiye’s broader humanitarian assistance program for Pakistan, launched in response to devastating monsoon floods that have left thousands displaced and in urgent need of relief.
Officials said the mobile health clinic is staffed with trained medical professionals equipped to deal with both emergency and preventive healthcare needs.
The facility is providing treatment for waterborne diseases, respiratory infections, skin allergies, and injuries commonly reported in flood-hit areas.
In addition, patients are being supplied with prescribed medicines free of cost, while special attention is being given to children, women, and the elderly who remain the most vulnerable during such crises.
TIKA representatives highlighted that alongside treatment, awareness sessions are being conducted on hygiene, safe drinking water practices, and preventive health measures to protect families from disease outbreaks that often follow large-scale flooding.
Hygiene kits containing soaps, disinfectants, and sanitary items are being distributed to ensure that communities maintain basic cleanliness in challenging conditions.
Local residents of Buner expressed gratitude for the timely support, emphasizing that access to medical services had become increasingly difficult due to damaged infrastructure and overwhelmed local health facilities.
“This mobile clinic has brought much-needed relief at a time when our villages are cut off and families are struggling to meet even the most basic health needs,” said one resident.
The assistance reflects the strong bond between Pakistan and Turkiye, which has historically extended support to each other during natural disasters and emergencies. Turkiye’s swift humanitarian response follows its continued commitment to help Pakistan rebuild and recover from recurring climate-related challenges.
In recent years, TIKA has been actively engaged in Pakistan through health, education, cultural preservation, and infrastructure development projects aimed at supporting communities in need.
Pakistani officials welcomed the initiative, acknowledging the importance of international partnerships in addressing the aftermath of climate disasters.
They noted that with rising global temperatures and unpredictable weather patterns, Pakistan remains highly vulnerable to extreme floods, making international humanitarian cooperation an essential lifeline for disaster-stricken communities.
Floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains have impacted thousands of families across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Buner, displacing households and destroying homes, farmland, and livestock.
Relief operations continue in multiple districts as authorities and humanitarian agencies strive to meet the urgent needs of affected populations.
Observers noted that the deployment of the mobile health clinic also highlights the role of humanitarian diplomacy, with Turkiye demonstrating solidarity not only through words but also through practical support.
By addressing healthcare needs on the ground, TIKA’s intervention is helping to reduce human suffering while strengthening ties between the two nations.
Humanitarian experts believe that such initiatives will have a long-term impact by setting an example for coordinated international disaster response.
They stress that beyond emergency relief, sustained investment in healthcare infrastructure, disaster preparedness, and climate resilience will be essential to reduce the vulnerability of flood-prone regions in Pakistan.
For now, the arrival of TIKA’s mobile health clinic brings immediate comfort and care to Buner’s flood-affected families, serving as a reminder of Turkiye’s enduring friendship and Pakistan’s need for continued international solidarity in times of crisis.
