LAHORE, Oct 12 (Diplomatic Star): Allama Iqbal Medical College Wednesday organized a workshop for the doctors and other health officials on the effectiveness of leadership skills in the health sector and crisis management in the hospitals.
The workshop was attended by the large numbers of faculty and senior doctors of various medical colleges and other para-medical staff, health officials.
While addressing the participants and highlighting the importance of such events and there significance in the health care facilities, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof Doctor Nadeem Hafeez Butt said that it become more imperative to build up effective communication through leadership skills and management issues in the health sector.
Prof Nadeem Butt was off the view about good leader, said “A good leader is the one who thinks for the collective interest instead of his own. “
While talking to Diplomatic Star Correspondent, chief organizer of the event, a head of Urology Department of Jinnah hospital, Prof Dr Naveed Iqbal said that due to the lack of leadership skills courses, senior doctors face problems in administrative matters which not only unwanted burden and stress on them but also effect their expertise.
He said that same has the attention to arrange this activity to encourage, motivate the doctors and in future promotes and utilize their leadership abilities for the betterment of the sector.
Replying to a question what ultimately qualities should be in a leadership, Dr Naveed Iqbal said that the key leadership qualities in healthcare are tech savviness, strong communication skills, time management, focus, and integrity. These qualities required or demands for today’s stakeholders that has to be developed for coming generation, he added.
Responding to another question why such leadership required in health sector, Dr Naveed Iqbal said that the leadership allows acceptance of diversity within the healthcare workers and provide mutual support.
It will also enables support and care within the environment. Employees from various backgrounds feel a sense of recognition as their leaders accept and understand their differences, Dr Naveed remarked.
Expressing gratitude over the successful conduct of workshop on such a pressing issues in health sector, Prof Dr Khazir Gondal said “I congratulate the doctors of the Department of Urology for the successful conduct of the workshop.”
He said that such initiatives, help bringing multi-dimension changes in health sector and play pivotal role to address the grievances of the doctors.
It was decided in the workshop, under the direction of Principal Medical College, financial and administrative courses for junior and senior doctors will be conducted regularly and Dr. Shabbir Chaudhry Course Secretary.
Renowned corporate trainer Adnan Azam has shared his best practices of about leadership skills and trained the workshop participants.
Prof. Kamran Chaudhry, Prof. Sajjad Haider, Prof. Khaliqur Rehman, Prof. Zakir Syal, Prof. Duranjaf, Prof. Nighat Majeed, Prof. Sajid Mehmood and Prof. Ashraf Zia participated.
Among the participants were Dr. Imran Ashraf, Dr. Farrukh Aslam, Dr. Shahjahan Chaudhry, Dr. Ijaz Siddiqui, Dr. Abid Abbas, Dr. Rizwan Baloch, Dr. Rashid Malkani and other doctors.
President Pechan Meri Pakistan, NGO Shahida Naveed also amongst the participant and facilitate the venue with her meaningful thoughts and ideas.
