ISLAMABAD, Mar 01 ( Diplomatic Star ): Ukrainian Ambassador to Pakistan Markian Chechak expressed hope that Pakistan would also take a firm stand against the Russian attack and take decisive steps to reduce tensions between two countries.
Addressing at a press conference in Islamabad, Markian Chechak said that the lives of thousands of foreigners in Ukraine are in danger due to Russian aggression.
“We are simplifying the procedure for all persons at the borders without any discrimination. Catering points have been set up at the borders for foreign students,” he said.
He said that all possible facilities are being provided to all foreigners on the borders of Ukraine, the number of refugees migrating from Ukraine could be 5 million.
352 killed in Russian missile strikes, He said Russia had been waging war against Ukraine for six days, with attacks on all parts of Ukraine.
Russian missile strikes have killed 352 people, including 16 children, and military and civilian casualty figures are changing every few hours, Mercian Chichuk said.
He said that hospitals and schools were being targeted in Russian attacks, adding that Russian rocket artillery had hit residential areas of Kharkiv the previous day, resulting in more casualties.
“We are grateful to the countries that have provided arms and other assistance to protect Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” he said.
“At the same time, we believe that the lack of an appropriate international response to the Russian military aggression or the absence of a neutral position will only exacerbate the conflict,” he said.
The Ukrainian ambassador said that human lives and freedom are more important than all strategic issues, if the issue is not stopped here, the third world war will become inevitable.
He said Ukraine had filed a petition against Russia in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
He called on the international community to impose more economic sanctions on Russia and to stop trade and propaganda.
Ukraine is a major trading partner of Pakistan Markian Chechak said that the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and Ukraine are in constant touch to reduce tensions.
He said he hoped that Pakistan would also take an active stance in condemning it and take decisive steps to reduce tensions and deter Russia from aggression.
“I would also like to remind you that Ukraine is an important trading partner of Pakistan,” he said.
The Ukrainian ambassador said that last year Ukraine provided 1.3 million tonnes of wheat for Pakistan’s food security.
He said that he was grateful to Pakistan for its sincere cooperation for the safe evacuation of Ukrainian citizens from Afghanistan.
