ISLAMABAD, Sep 18 (Diplomatic Star): Belarus observed its National Unity Day on September 17, a holiday that has become a symbol of national solidarity since its establishment on June 7, 2021, by Decree No. 206 of the President of the Republic of Belarus.
The date commemorates the 1939 reunification of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR) and Western Belarus, a territory divided in 1921 under the Riga Peace Treaty.
The reunification, brought about by the Red Army’s liberation campaign, played a key role in Belarus’s survival during the Great Patriotic War and its rise as a founding member of the United Nations.
National Unity Day highlights the values of unity and togetherness, transcending religious and ethnic divides in the country.
The celebration, though a young tradition, has been warmly embraced by Belarusians. On this day, citizens reflect on their shared national identity and the pride they hold in their country’s achievements.
