ISLAMABAD, June 27, Diplomatic Star (DS): National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has issued production orders to two arrested members of the opposition, allowing them to attend the budget session on Monday.
According to Diplomatic Star , the Speaker of the National Assembly issued production orders for Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Member National Assembly of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) from Sukkur and Ali Wazir, an independent member elected from the tribal districts.
It may be recalled that in the budget session, several lawmakers had asked the Speaker to issue production orders for two captive opposition leaders.
He had also urged the speaker to issue a production order for PML-N’s Khawaja Asif, but he was granted bail by the Lahore High Court last weekend.
It may be recalled that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had arrested former Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and PPP leader Khurshid Shah on September 18, 2019 in Islamabad in a disproportionate assets case.
The NAB had transferred Khurshid Shah to Sukkur and obtained his physical remand, which was later changed to judicial remand. Meanwhile, Khursheed Shah was also shifted to hospital due to ill health in custody.
Khurshid Shah had approached the Supreme Court after his bail application was rejected by the Sindh High Court, but earlier this month he withdrew his bail application from the apex court.
On the other hand, Ali Wazir, a member of the National Assembly, was transferred from Peshawar to Karachi on December 16, 2020 after being arrested on various charges, including using provocative language against state institutions during a rally in Karachi.
