ISLAMABAD, Jun 16 (Diplomatic Star): U.S. Charge d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker has praised Pakistan’s rich cultural traditions, hospitality, cuisine, cricket passion and vibrant wedding ceremonies, saying the warmth of Pakistani people makes visitors feel welcomed and treated like family.

In an interview shared on the official Instagram account of the U.S. Embassy Islamabad, Baker spoke about her experiences in Pakistan, highlighting the country’s diverse culture, welcoming society and memorable traditions.

The U.S. diplomat said she enjoys spending her free time with friends and travelling to different parts of Pakistan to explore new places, understand local traditions and experience the country’s cultural diversity.

Baker said the hospitality of Pakistani people is one of the most impressive aspects of her stay in the country. She noted that Pakistanis have a unique way of welcoming guests and making them feel comfortable, often extending the warmth and care normally reserved for family members.

When asked which part of Pakistani culture she believes Americans should know more about, Baker said the generosity and hospitality of Pakistani people would be her first choice. She said the welcoming attitude of Pakistanis creates a strong and positive impression on visitors.

The U.S. diplomat also shared her growing interest in cricket, saying she has developed an appreciation for the sport since arriving in Pakistan. She admitted that she is still learning the rules and technical aspects of the game but enjoys the excitement and passion surrounding cricket.

Describing cricket as “a little complicated,” Baker said she makes efforts to visit stadiums whenever possible and enjoys watching matches, particularly supporting Pakistan’s national cricket team.

Baker also expressed appreciation for Pakistani cuisine, naming palak paneer as one of her favourite dishes. She also praised dal, saying traditional Pakistani food offers unique flavours and reflects the country’s rich culinary heritage.

She further highlighted popular Pakistani snacks and beverages, saying chai and pakoras are among the foods she enjoys. She also praised Pakistani desserts, describing them as “amazing” and an important part of the country’s food culture.

Sharing recommendations from American cuisine, Baker said she would encourage Pakistanis to try breakfast tacos from San Antonio, Texas, her hometown. She also recommended Texas barbecue, describing it as another popular American food tradition worth experiencing.

Speaking about cultural traditions, Baker said Pakistani weddings are among her favourite experiences in the country.

She described wedding celebrations, including mehndi, barat and valima ceremonies, as colourful and meaningful events that showcase Pakistan’s traditions and family values.

The U.S. diplomat said she has had the opportunity to attend several Pakistani weddings during her stay and found the celebrations full of happiness, energy and cultural richness. She praised the traditional dresses and said brides at Pakistani weddings often look like “princesses.”

Baker’s remarks reflect her appreciation for Pakistan’s cultural diversity and social traditions, while highlighting the role of cultural exchange in strengthening understanding between the people of Pakistan and the United States.
