ISLAMABAD, May 5 (Diplomatic Star): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday firmly rejected India’s attempts to link Pakistan to the Pahalgam incident without presenting any evidence and reiterated his offer for a transparent, credible, and neutral international investigation—inviting the United Kingdom to participate.
During a meeting with UK High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott at the Prime Minister House, the premier shared Pakistan’s concerns over the deteriorating situation in South Asia following the Pahalgam incident, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.
He emphasized that Pakistan seeks peace and regional stability and would not take any action that could jeopardize it.
“With the support of friendly countries, including the UK, our government is focused on advancing economic growth and development,” the prime minister said.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that India’s baseless accusations were a diversionary tactic to shift global attention from the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, which remains the core issue of regional instability.
The prime minister urged the United Kingdom, which enjoys strong diplomatic relations with both Pakistan and India, to play an active role in reducing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
High Commissioner Marriott thanked the prime minister for sharing Pakistan’s position and assured that the UK would continue working closely with both countries to preserve regional peace and stability.
