Punjab govt geared towards more empowering the minorities: Pervez Elahi

ISLAMABAD, Dec 25 (Diplomatic Star): Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has said that minorities in Pakistan are enjoying equal rights and free to practice their religion.

Chief Minister Punjab said that the constitution of Pakistan, in line with the Quaid’s vision, enshrined freedom and protection of the rights of all communities living here.

“The Government’s policies are geared towards empowering the minority communities to play their role in national life as equal citizens and fostering interfaith harmony,” the Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said this while addressing a Special Christmas ceremony in connection with the Christmas day celebration at Chief Minister’s Office.

Pervez Elahi said that 25 December had a special significance as it also marked the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The Chief Minister said that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah has kept white color in our flag for minorities. It is our duty to protect the rights of minorities. The quota of minorities in jobs has been increased from 2 percent to 5 percent.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has cut the Christmas cake, congratulated the Christian community.

Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has announced to give the Christian community, the ownership rights where they are living in slums.

He said that, In the previous era, he went to Yohanabad and Kasur and gave ownership rights to Christians, now his government will give ownership rights to minorities living in slums.

Chief Minister also assured the Christian community that his government will ensure the 5% quota in jobs for minorities, besides allocating sufficient funds for the construction and repair of churches and religious festivals.

Earlier, President Meri Pechan Welfare Foundation (MPW-F) none governmental organization (NGO) and chief minister social media consultant  Shahida Naveed in a called on meeting with Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has briefed the chief minister about several ongoing and upcoming projects.

Shahida Naveed informed the CM Punjab that under the platform of Pechan Meri Welfare Foundation, we are working to address the health care issues of the society and rendering services in far flung areas of the country where health care facilities is a rare Phenomenon.

Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi appreciated the work of Shahida Naveed and termed it vital for societal uplifts, said such free medical camps, are playing a crucial role to identify the diseases like hypertension, blood pressure, diabetes, depression, mental health issues and other diseases which normally people are not taking them serious.
